Wrinkles are natural. But seriously, who likes them?

Beauty & Hair

Aging is a natural process that leads to the appearance of physiological changes in the skin surface. Wrinkles are one of those changes. In an ageing skin, there is a decrease in the dermis and epidermis thickness, which also lose their underlying fat layers. The skin becomes drier and more irregular due to the decrease of some essential components:

  • Collagen - gives firmness to the skin

  • Elastin - gives elasticity to the skin

  • Hyaluronic acid - hydrates and fills the skin

There are different types of wrinkles caused by different factors. Expression wrinkles are caused by repeatedly making the same expressions and disappear when the movement stops. Static wrinkles are wrinkles that are visible when your face is at rest and they are a result of ageing.

The first signs are the appearance of fine lines, which start to appear around the age of 25-30 years.
They are lines that appear around the eyes and lips areas, commonly called "crow's feet” or "barcode" wrinkles, respectively. They usually appear around these areas because the skin is thinner, drier, and more sensitive.

The aging process cannot be stopped. However, there are other factors that can lead to the appearance of wrinkles and they are not
causally linked to a person's age.

External factors responsible for skin ageing:

  • Smoking

  • Unbalanced diet

  • Excess sun exposure

  • Stress

  • Pollution

Factors such as skin type and colour are also responsible for the more or less early appearance of wrinkles. For example, dark-skinned people have a higher amount of collagen in their dermis, making their skin more resistant to the appearance of wrinkles. This type of skin also has higher levels of melanin, which protects the skin from solar radiation. On the other hand, the more sensitive the skin is, the less tolerant it becomes. These types of skin are more prone to the appearance of wrinkles.

How to prevent wrinkles

  • Use a sunscreen - the sun is a great ally because of its beneficial effects on osteoporosis and depression; however, ultraviolet radiation leads to premature aging of the skin.

  • Keep your skin hydrated at all times - use a cream adapted to your skin type

  • Apply an anti-wrinkle cream - these creams nourish the skin with substances that prevent the appearance of wrinkles

  • Use food supplements rich in antioxidants

  • Drink plenty of water - keeps your skin hydrated

  • Avoid smoking - tobacco smoke decreases skin circulation and oxygenation. The movement of pursing the lips when smoking also leads to the appearance of wrinkles around the lips.

  • Wear sunglasses - important to prevent the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes.

Tips for your routine in the fight against wrinkles

  1. Skin cleaning - it is an especially important step as it will remove dirt, makeup, and grease from the skin, leaving it prepared for the next steps. A clean skin can absorb more effectively the active substances present in cosmetics.
  2. Toning - refreshes the skin, restores its natural pH, and removes any trace of cleaning products.
  3. Daily care cream - apply your anti-wrinkle or moisturizer, which should be chosen according to your skin type.
  4. Apply the sunscreen - there are day creams that already have sunscreen with an SPF15 factor.  In case you need a higher protection factor, apply a sunscreen with a higher SPF.

At night, the 4th step is not applied. However, you can use an anti-wrinkle serum or concentrated cream that will work deeply for the whole night.
