Correct mask use

COVID Special

The use of masks is a complementary measure to limit the transmission of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in the community. The mask should be worn whenever one stays in enclosed spaces with several people, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, shops or commercial establishments, public transport, among others.

The use of a mask does not dispense with the following precautions:

  • Social distance;
  • Respiratory label measures;
  • Frequent and adequate hand washing hands;

Before you put it on don't forget to...

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, or disinfect them with an alcohol-based solution;
  • Confirm which is the inner and outer face of the mask (in surgical masks the inner face, which is in contact with the face, is white and the outer face is another colour);
  • Ensure that the mask is thoroughly dry (in the case of a social or textile mask).

How to put the mask on?

Put on the mask by grasping it by the laces or elastic bands;

Check that the mask fits perfectly to the face: it should fit over the nose, cover the mouth and chin;

Make sure there is no gap between your face and the mask. On models with elastic bands a knot may be required to ensure a better fit.

While wearing the mask...

Avoid touching the mask with your hands. If you touch the mask, you should wash your hands immediately (as the mask may contain virus particles);

In the case of surgical masks, these should be changed when they are dirty or damp (on average every 4 hours or every 6 hours, depending on the humidity produced when we breathe);

Social masks have a maximum usage period of about 4 hours, and should be changed earlier if they are damp.

How to remove the mask?

Wash or disinfect hands thoroughly before removing the mask;

Remove the mask by the elastic bands or laces. Avoid touching the front of the mask with your hands.

If it is a surgical mask, it should be discarded immediately;

In the case of a social or cloth mask, you should put it in a closed plastic bag and keep it until it is put in the washing machine;

Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to wash (preferably the mask should be washed with detergent following at least a cycle of 60ºC for 30 minutes), drying and re-use of the masks.

AFTER REMOVING THE MASK WASH YOUR HANDS AGAIN THOROUGHLY
